Choosing Northwest Therapy Group, PLLC

How We Keep Your Information Safe

We understand how important privacy is, especially when it comes to talking about your personal life. Here’s how we protect your information:

Confidentiality for Teens in Washington State

In Washington State, teens aged 13 and older have the same confidentiality rights as adults in therapy. This means your sessions and personal information are private. However, there are some important exceptions:

  • If your therapist believes you are a danger to yourself or others, confidentiality may need to be broken to ensure safety.
  • Therapists are mandated reporters. This means if you disclose current or past abuse, your therapist is required by law to make a report.

Your therapist will discuss these limits to confidentiality with you openly and answer any questions you may have about how this works. We want you to feel safe and informed every step of the way.

  • Secure Communication: Whether you see your therapist online or in person, we use secure platforms to keep your information safe.
  • Parental Involvement:  As with an adult in therapy, you have control over what information is released in therapy and who it is released to. Your therapist can help to guide you on how to share your information with those you choose to release your information to.

Talking to Your Parents or Guardians About Therapy

It can be tough to start a conversation with your parents or guardians about therapy, but we’re here to help. Here are a few tips on how to bring it up:

  1. Be Honest About How You Feel: Tell them how you’ve been feeling lately, whether it's stress, sadness, or anxiety. Be clear about how you think therapy can help.
  2. Ask for Support, Not Permission: Frame the conversation as asking for their help in getting support, rather than asking for permission to seek therapy.
  3. Use “I” Statements: For example, “I’ve been feeling really overwhelmed, and I think talking to a therapist might help me.”
  4. Show Them Information: Share this page or other resources with them so they understand the benefits of therapy for teens like you.
  5. Talk About Confidentiality: Let them know that your therapist will keep your information private, which might make them feel more comfortable with the idea.

Tips for Keeping a Healthy Mental Health

We know that maintaining good mental health can be challenging, especially as a teen. Here are some simple ways to take care of your mental well-being:

  1. Stay Connected: Keep in touch with friends and family who make you feel supported.
  2. Practice Self-Care: Whether it's journaling, playing sports, or listening to music, find time to do things that make you happy.
  3. Limit Social Media: It's easy to compare yourself to others online. Take breaks from social media if it makes you feel anxious or down.
  4. Get Enough Sleep: Sleep is essential for your mental health. Try to get 8-10 hours of sleep every night.
  5. Talk About Your Feelings: Whether it’s with a friend, parent, or therapist, talking about your feelings can help you work through them.
  6. Set Boundaries: Learn to say "no" when you feel overwhelmed. It’s okay to take a step back when you need time for yourself.

Katie has always had a passion for serving others. Her husband retired from the U.S. Army in June of 2021 after 20 years of service during which time Katie had the privilege of volunteering and working with military families within his units in various capacities. She quickly learned the challenges that military families face as individuals and in relationship to having to frequently relocate, endure deployments, and manage other mental and emotional obstacles. Katie's experiences and desire to serve others led her to add on to her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Louisville and achieve her Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University.

Katie works primarily with teens, adults, and couples providing therapy in treating relationship issues, depression, anxiety, anger, life transitions, and self-esteem issues. She has experience in working with military families and is LGBTQ+ friendly. She is committed to helping clients feel more empowered, develop healthier ways of thinking and behaving by tapping into their own strengths and finding meaning and purpose in their lives. The theoretical approaches Katie uses include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Gottman, Positive Psychology, and Strength-Based Therapy.

In her spare time, you can find Katie gardening, biking, hiking, taking a Zumba class, spending time with family, and watching documentaries.

My name is Charlotte and I am currently living in the city of Lacey. I have a Master’s Degree in Psychology emphasizing in Marriage and Family Therapy through Brandman University. Currently living in the city of Lacey for the past twelve years. I was brought up and married into a military family lifestyle, which led me to travel to my two favorite places: Italy and Germany.

I am a wife and mother of two wonderful children who like to keep me busy. We enjoy spending family time together: going on adventures, trying new foods, singing, painting, anything Disney or Anime, or finding new places to try.

As a therapist, I believe in the importance of fostering inclusivity within our community and am passionate about working with Individuals, Children/Families, Military personnel experiencing PTSD, and supporting individuals in the LGBTQ+ community in either individual or family sessions.

The theoretical approaches I use are: CBT + for Anxiety, Trauma, Behavior Modification, Depression, and ADHD; Solution Focused Therapy; Family Systems; and Creative Expressive Therapy to help clients work through depression, anxiety, behaviors, self-esteem, identity, trauma, transitions in life, and relationship challenges. I look forward to working with you and tailoring treatment based on your needs.

Hi, my name is Hope (she/her) and I moved to Washington with my family after earning my M.A. in Counseling and Art Therapy from Southwestern College in 2021.  I have been married for twenty years and we are the proud parents of a (now adult) transgender son.  In my previous life, I was a public elementary school art teacher, where I developed many of the client and strength-based approaches I use in counselling today.  Art making is one of many approaches that I use, and it is not required, however I do encourage the use of art materials in therapy to express what cannot be said in words, and as a way to work though intense emotions.

I have experience with and a passion for working with LGBTQ+ teens and adults, as well as those who struggle with anxiety, panic disorder, depression, PTSD, life transitions, displacement/exile due to political or natural causes, existential questioning, and bereavement.  I believe in collaborative mental health care and that you are your own expert.  I am here to listen and to offer creative and tangible skills to support

the unique and wonderful being you are, at exactly where you are.  I am available for in-person and tele-health.

Hey, I’m Tim. I have recently moved to Washington in 2024 after spending a year in the West of Ireland. I find meaning and fulfillment in pursuing therapeutic connections for the purpose of providing a space where all my clients can feel seen, heard, and valued. I developed my passion for helping individuals from my personal experiences working with adolescents in inner city Chicago, volunteering with medical and music teams for both earthquake victims in Haiti and Burmese Refugees in Thailand, as well as mentoring in a Neurodivergent program in Denver. I am passionate about connection and processing how relationships and events impact areas of identity, emotional regulation, familial attachment, human induced trauma, and life transitions. I am client centered and strive to provide safety, acceptance, and empowerment for all my clients from unique backgrounds and experiences. I incorporate CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Somatic therapy.

I love to work with adolescents 10+, college students, adults with childhood trauma, and parents with children still at home.

I have lived in the Olympia area most of my life. I have built a life here with my husband and our two children. I love to garden and be outside, but I also enjoy video & board games or a good fantasy book.

I work with adolescents and adults moving through life's transitions and challenges. Each person's journey is different, so I aim to use techniques that fit each individual's needs. I use an integrative approach stemming from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Theory, Family Systems Theory and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I use techniques such as play, expressive art, and talk therapy.

I focus on creating a safe space for people to explore difficult emotions and use a collaborative approach to help clients reach their goals.

-

I’m a trauma-informed psychotherapist dedicated to helping clients reclaim their sense of self, heal from past wounds, and cultivate meaningful lives. I work with people carrying invisible weight—trauma survivors, folks navigating neurodivergence like ADHD, and LGBTQ+ individuals seeking space to explore identity, safety, and healing.

My clients are often exhausted from performing, masking, or simply surviving. They’re ready to shed old patterns, reconnect with their voice, reclaim their boundaries, and rediscover their joy. If that sounds like you, know that you’re not alone—and you don’t have to keep doing it alone.

My approach is integrative and deeply relational. I blend evidence-based therapies like EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and somatic awareness with a commitment to neurodivergence-affirming care. Therapy with me is rooted in compassion, curiosity, and deep respect for the wisdom you already carry. I don’t see myself as the expert on your life—you are. My role is to support your process, hold space for the parts of you that feel stuck or silenced, and walk with you as you heal and grow in the ways that matter most to you.

This is your space to be messy, to be curious, to be real. Whether you're navigating the ripple effects of trauma, learning how to work with your ADHD brain rather than against it, or unpacking the layers of gender, sexuality, and self—you’re welcome here, just as you are.

Hi, my name is Spencer, and I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor associate. I was born and raised in Washington and continue to live in the Evergreen State with my family and our dog. Life is often like a roadmap where you have an idea of where you want to go but maybe aren’t sure how to reach it. I would like to work together in being your GPS to help you reach your destination, whether taking the highway or the scenic routes or perhaps just enjoying the drive itself. I believe in working with the client's strengths and helping them reach their true potential. I have worked with children, teens, adults, and the elderly with depression, anxiety, autism, and PTSD. I use a combination of CBT, person-centered, art-based, and strengths-based treatment. I look forward to working together!

I am committed to supporting diverse voices by affirming and guiding transformation centered in cultural awareness. I help support: -2slgbtqia+, Anxiety, First Time Parents, Grief & Trauma, Life Transitions, Multicultural & Multiracial Couples, Individuals, and Families.
I use person-centered systems, emotion-focused, solution-focused, and somatic therapies to encourage and guide people to share, build, and redirect their stories. To empower them when facing existential questions of identity, belonging, and purpose.
Together we will identify and reinforce inner strengths, to direct your story and healing. Hi, my name is Megan and I am an associate counselor who recently graduated from Naropa University in the Mindfulness-based Transpersonal Counseling program. I am passionate about the possibility for liberation of all beings from the forces that cause suffering.

Often trauma and past experiences create patterns of behavior that keep us feeling trapped and burdened. Mindfulness techniques can bring awareness to what is present and allow space to move into deeper relationship with self. Guilt and shame are cultural burdens we all bear

and I believe an environment of deep, full acceptance creates the potential for healing.

My background as a daily yoga practitioner and teacher, mother, gardener, plant medicine maker, dancer, and devoted community member influences my approach when

working with clients. I have a holistic perspective, believing that finding our way back to meaningful connections, can create deep, profound healing. I am experienced and interested in working with the LGBTQ+ and kink community, women and mothers needing support through major transitions, men seeking support in relationships and self-discovery, as well adolescents above the age of 16. depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief, and addiction. In my practice, I incorporate mindfulness and draw from client-centered therapies such as Gestalt, Somatic, Jungian, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I am available to meet clients where they are and collaborate to identify future goals. Excited to embark on this journey with you!

My name is Sam (he/him, they/them), and I am a graduate of Saint Martin’s University from the MAC (Masters of Arts in Counseling) program. I am a queer and transmasc person who was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and found that I loved the environment so much I’ve stuck around my whole life. I even love the rain!

I am interested in working with many different communities and different people, especially LGBTQ+ people as my own journey was what led me back towards my interest in mental health and wellbeing. I received my undergraduate degree from The Evergreen State College with a concentration in Psychology and my Master’s of Arts in Counseling from Saint Martin’s University, where I also began my journey into understanding the ways in which creativity can be used to express internal worlds.

I love animals and share my space with my dog, cat, small parrot, and gecko. Hobby writing is something that I have enjoyed and continue to love during my spare time. Reading and gaming have also informed a lot of my life and continue to be big hobbies of mine. I find that sometimes seeing even a piece of yourself or your story in a character or world can open up your ability to talk about new and difficult topics.

Whether it is movies, TV, books, video games, music, etc., creative narratives are extremely important to me and I strongly believe that we can find ourselves in stories, characters, and worlds no matter how fantastical. Creativity is an amazing way to express ourselves, and to be able to find community with others. It can also give people the means to process in a way that fits them as an individual and give language to what may be difficult to express otherwise.

Therapy is a place where you can explore and build an understanding of your internal world in a safe space. Engaging with creativity has always been an important part of my life, and informs a lot of my work with clients. The therapeutic relationship is very important to me and I am inspired by Existential theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy also known as ACT, Person-Centered therapy, as well as the intersection of queer and therapeutic theories. I approach therapy through the lens that individual emotions are not good or bad, and that it is the intensity level of which they are experienced that can be disruptive to many aspects of your life.

I look forward to meeting you where you are and hearing your story.

My aim is to empower clients to make thoughtful and impactful changes to improve their lives. I recently completed my master’s degree (M.Ed.) in clinical mental health counseling from Seattle University. While I was born and raised in Olympia, I spent most of my adulthood in North Carolina, Minnesota, and Georgia before returning to the Pacific Northwest in 2021. I earned my PhD in genetics in 2010 and was a university biology professor prior to pursuing a career in counseling.  My time spent as a biologist fostered a deep appreciation and understanding how biology and the environment shape our unique experiences and lives. My experience in higher education emphasized how systemic barriers can affect mental health, especially those from marginalized backgrounds. I seek to provide counseling using a multi-dimensional approach to therapy and integrate theoretical orientations depending on my clients’ needs as they navigate high stress environments, life transitions, grief, anxiety and depression, and other mental health challenges. I am committed to fostering a welcoming, supportive, and collaborative relationship with those I work with. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking and backpacking, cycling, culinary pursuits and reupholstering furniture.
