My name is Dan and I am a fully licensed Mental Health Counselor. I grew up in Olympia and returned here after completing my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at Bastyr University. I am a husband and father of two young children.
I believe in a holistic approach when working with individuals; I believe it is imperative to consider the mind, body, and spirit when working towards wellness. I have worked in inpatient and intensive outpatient settings and have navigated many degrees of mental health and diagnostic presentations.
I utilize tools from CBT and ACT to support individuals in finding, building, and maintaining meaning in their actions and lives. I believe we all could use some support in facing the many challenges presented throughout our lives. I encourage those I work with to step into a willingness to experience these hardships for that is where the growth can happen.
I strongly believe in utilizing the tools that one already comes equipped with. I explore with my clients how they can use their hobbies, relationships, interests to support their recovery in mental health. As a gamer and bit of a geek myself, I often look to the characters and stories people engage with to find role models or examples of values that can help guide meaning making.
I operate from a transdiagnostic approach to counseling, meaning I use a tool kit that works under a large number of conditions. I have experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD, psychosis, and other conditions. I work with teens (16+) and adults, but am open to other arrangements upon discussion.
I am currently providing hybrid services, with remote and in-person availability.

My name is Brett, and I was born and raised in Seattle. I spent my childhood and adolescence in my Grandmother and Mother’s hair salon where I learned many life lessons, one of the most important being the relationships that can be built by listening to someone’s story can often be the most healing relationships we have. I have lived in the Olympia area for the last 15+ years and I am a proud husband and father. I have gone down many different career paths (delivery driver, welder, tattoo artist...just to name a few) before I became a counselor. This life experience has framed the way I approach therapy in the sense that I never want to assume where or what someone may have experienced before we sit down to talk to each other.
My approach to therapy draws from many different counseling theories and current research-based treatment methods. I have experience working with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, incarceration, substance use issues, and relationship discord. I like to look at a client’s strengths and build upon them to help develop solutions to move beyond the problems that exist and that are causing suffering in their lives or relationships and learning how to cope more flexibly to make ourselves more resilient in the future. I am currently providing both in-person and telehealth counseling for individuals.

Of course, I blame the weather for this! I cohabitate with other humans; however, an assortment of dogs, horses, cats, and chickens currently outnumber us. I head for the ocean when I get the chance.
I embrace recovery from trauma, depression, and co dependence. I have worked treating addictions for twenty years and have been treating folks recovering from trauma, depression, and anxiety for the past six years.
I have a family systems approach and I enjoy working with kids, adults, families, and couples.

During my time here I have come to call Olympia and its surrounding cities my home. My approach to therapy is grounded in a learners mindset, I believe you are the expert of your own experiences and I believe with guidance you can learn to navigate your life in a healthy and sustainable way. I incorporate mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) in my practice and in my life. This approach aims to facilitate a better familiarity with our own thoughts, emotions, and behaviors giving us more control in our lives. I frequently incorporate humor into my practice along with a friendly charismatic demeanor. I have experience working with Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Bipolar disorders, and Complex Grief. I utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which aims to integrate and reduce distress around traumatic experiences.
