Licensure Supervision Requirements in Washington State

There can be a lot of confusion about supervision requirements for Associate level therapists in Washington State.  Below are the state's licensure requirements for supervision. While each license requires supervision, each has different specific requirements that must be met.

Supervision requirements by license

Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate

Hours

100 Hours

Supervision for LMHCAs must be provided by a state approved supervisor in groups of two or less.

Marriage and Family Therapist Associate

Total Hours Required: 200 Hours of Supervision Overall. Can be a combination of individual and group supervision.

Individual Supervision

100 Hours

100 of the 200 hours must be with a Supervisor that is a LMFT with 5 years clinical experience. Groups of two or less count as "Individual Supervision."

Group Supervision (Optional, But a Good Idea)

100 Hours

100 of the 200 hours of required supervision can be done in groups larger than 2.

Social workers, your requirements are complicated! Please call our office and speak with Athena about your specific needs.
